'Reasonableness' of Public Officers' Legal Fees at Heart of New York Bill Aimed at Reining In Costs
In the wake of ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s tally of state-funded legal expenses, a bill has been advanced by Democrats in the New York State Legislature aimed at having the state comptroller assess whether a public officer’s legal representation is reasonable. It would make it harder for a public officer to hire multiple firms to work on the same matter. The AG’s office refused to represent Cuomo’s defense of sexual harassment claims.
